I like running channel A as a sort of preamp or tone shaper w/ a touch of gain (makes my amp really come alive) then I max out the boost channel gain and I have a really smooth but cutting lead sound. I find this very effective for how I run the pedal.
Here are some of my favorite features on this pedal.īass Boost: If you open up the battery compartment you will find internal switches for a bass boost for each channel. My favorite thing about all of James' pedals is that they are feature packed, but theres nothing a gigging guitarist wouldnt need, they are simple functions to use, and you dont NEED to use them to get great sounds. The 3-band EQ can really help you sculpt the sound your looking for.
You could have this as the only drive on your board and you wouldnt miss anything (unless you are a huge fuzz guy). It does everything from transparent boost, touch-sensitive low-gain, medium-gain crunch, and nearly full on distortion. The "versatility" thing gets thrown around a lot here, but this pedal really is that. I got pumped when I got the call to come and prototype it (since I had some pedals that I liked) and I think it turned out great (cant tell you how cool James' workshop is.and no goop to be found lol).
James hit me back and said he was working on it and was really pumped about it. I wanted a pedal like the BRP that could do a lower gain (just breaking-up) sound, replacing the 2 pedals I currently used and also have a boost channel for overdriven leads. I used to use 2 tube screamer-ish pedals in the Side Track of the BRP so I could A/B between my lead sound and 2 levels of lower gain overdrive. I use the Big Rock Pro as my main distortion and lead sound and love it. I had sent James an email many months back asking him about doing this for a couple reasons.
Got this pedal a couple weeks back and am pretty blown away with what James did with it.
